How do you download your Twitter archive? That question has come up a lot recently. It is really fast and simple. You go to Account – Settings – Content and click on Request Your Archive. You will receive a message telling you that you'll receive an e-mail when your archive is ready to be downloaded so to be patient.
I got short-suited in the patience department, but no patience was needed. I got that e-mail in less than 15 seconds.
The file was zipped and in my Downloads folder. Unzipping it revealed a very elegant and useful graphical interface showing my tweets from 2008 onward, allowing me to select the month I wanted to look at. I didn't get any tweets after November 2015 so I'm thinking there is an archive cut-off month by month. Had I requested the archive in early January, I probably would have gotten my December tweets.
I had to grin at my first tweet, asking whether there was value in Twitter or whether it was a time-suck. Not sure I have that answer even now.
But for those of you who might need to go through this process in e-discovery, I thought this post might come in handy.
Happy New Year to one and all!
