The Federal Trade Commission has released its Privacy & Data Security Update: 2017. The annual Report, which summarizes the privacy and data security-related activities conducted by the FTC over the past year, is broken down into five key areas: (1) enforcement, (2) advocacy, (3) workshops, (4) reports and surveys, (5) consumer education and business guidance, and (6) international engagement.
Of special interest to RTL readers will be the enforcement section in which the FTC highlights 10 privacy cases and three data security cases that it brought in 2017.
My personal guess is that the FTC will continue to play a growing and important role in this area. I sure hope so.
